Amongst others, SmartScreen™ is the first application in South Africa that allows suitably qualified civilians to capture
fingerprints using an approved fingerprint scanning device, to include them in a Background Screening order, and to transmit them ultimately
to the SAPS for comparison on that organization's Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
In order to do so, SmartScreen™ makes use of an AFISwitch software integration library, that must be downloaded and installed on your computer after SmartScreen™ has been installed.

Obviously, to capture a set of fingerprints, an electronic fingerprint scanner is required. And not
just any scanner: only a Sagem Morphosmart MSO 300 scanner will do (pictured at right).
Further, these electronic devices must be purchased via Sagem's approved reseller in South Africa, Ideco (Pty) Limited, or one of their agents (we are registered agents). The serial number of each device purchased via the approved channels is entered into an AFISwitch registry (maintained by Ideco), and is tested against all fingerprints forwarded to AFISwitch. If the sourcing serial number does not appear on the register, the fingerprint set is discarded!
